Target Drugs
Please help us in our effort to make these drugs more available! You can submit a synthesis, contribute information on any page, discuss topics in our forums or contact us with suggestions to improve the site. Please contribute information you may have on cost or molecules and synthetic intermediates, efficiency, or other known syntheses and fill in gaps in our presented information. In some cases, improving the production of intermediates may be more effective than a brand new synthesis. We need your help to reach our goals and save millions of lives!
- Click on a drug’s name below to go to its specific page. There, you can view the information we have collected on cost and previous syntheses, see submitted syntheses and suggest your own. Trade or alternative names of each drug are enclosed in parentheses in the page title.
- The costs we have posted for materials and the actual drug are not necessarily for the pharmaceutical grade form. Most costs were obtained from research chemical suppliers; consequently, the actual cost of producing these drugs for human use is probably greater than what we have posted.
- All drugs listed here have been approved for use by the FDA, European Commission, or similar agency. If you find that one is not, please let us know.
- Know of a good target? Please let us know in our forums or by contacting us.
Thank you for supporting the Cure for Needy Project!
Neglected Tropical Diseases
The main challenge with the drugs for neglected tropical diseases is reducing the cost for those afflicted. Therefore, our goal is to lower the cost to 10 US dollars per treatment.
Amebiasis
Leshmaniesis
Lymphatic Filariasis
Chagas
Orphan Drugs
Availability is the greatest issue in orphan drug production. The prices for orphan drug treatment may be much higher than those for neglected diseases, sometimes in the hundreds or thousands of US dollars.
The FDA's list of designated orphan drugs: http://www.fda.gov/orphan/designat/list.htm
The ease of synthesis ratings were assigned by us to provide an at-a-glance comparison of projected difficulty. A rating of 1 is the easiest and 6 is the hardest. Many of the 'harder' drugs will probably require a semisynthesis.
